Handheld PDA
 |
A handheld PD, also known as a palmtop computer, or PDA, is a handheld computer that is most commonly used for keeping dates and addresses. However, most handheld PDs offer many more options. Clocks and calculators are standard applications, while other handheld PDs offer Internet connectivity, word processing and the ability to pick up radio waves or play mp3 files.
Handheld PDs have a touch screen that allows users to access programs by pressing on the shortcuts on the screen. This touch screen usually includes a virtual keyboard and a section for a user to write letters, numbers and symbols in a shorthand known as graffiti. Many handhelds such as the Blackberry have an actual miniature keyboard and a thumbwheel to better navigate the touchscreen menu. |
Handheld PDs have a lot of software available to them. Games are always a popular option. Many handheld PDs include a solitaire game, along with a game designed to improve the user's skill with writing on a handheld PD. Crossword puzzles and sudoku games are also popular, and some companies offer a daily subscription to these puzzles. Other handheld PD software includes accounting software, expense report software and database and spreadsheet software.
