The Dell computer company's foray into PDAs has produced a device that is both well-built and affordable. Dell PDAs offer as many options as the better-known brands.
Dell PDAs come with the standard touch screen and stylus method of interface. High-end Dell PDAs also offer built-in keyboards and thumbwheels. The keyboard of a Dell PDA is designed to work with the user's thumbs, and can be programmed to type specific words with a preprogrammed keystroke combination and uses Tegic's T9 word recognition system.
Internet connectivity is a large draw of high-end Dell PDAs. A Wi-Fi connection is used for this, and many Dell PDAs accommodate this capability by including a Web browser and email programs with the operating system. While a Dell PDA also includes standard programs such as a scheduler, an address book, a clock and a calendar, it also can support more advanced programs, such as a word processor, spreadsheet and database. Of course, a Dell PDA can carry many games, from solitaire card games to more advanced arcade-style games. |
Dell PDAs are also able to synch with personal computers in order to update and share information. Dell PDAs can synch with personal computers by Wi-Fi, a USB cable or special docking base. While special software for the Dell PDA can be downloaded, scheduling and email programs such as Microsoft Outlook can also be used.
